Custom Vinyl Stickers or Precision Sized Vinyl Labels

Water resistant, custom vinyl stickers.  Various adhesive levels from removable low tack to an aggressive, high tack that withstands extreme conditions.  Stickers and labels can be custom shaped to contour the artwork or to fit your application.  Gloss or matte finishes.  See below for details.

Our water resistant, custom vinyl stickers and vinyl labels are flexible and tear resistant.  Our vinyl sticker printer prints, then cuts, each of the vinyl stickers to whatever shape and size you want.   The inks are non-toxic and environmentally friendly, scratch resistant, and they have a long life span.  Choose from several different adhesive strengths, depending on your need.  For options, select, lamination to protect the inks, and choose to have your stickers grouped on sheets or separated into singles.  In short, you have many options for custom vinyl stickers and vinyl labels.  Contact us if you need help making your choices.

1. Adhesive Vinyl Options

Firstly, you select your vinyl.  Except for the clear vinyl, our custom vinyl stickers start out white.  The colour is applied to them by the vinyl sticker printer.  In some cases, the adhesive on the back of the vinyl stickers is grey.  You will not see the adhesive when the sticker is in place unless you are installing it on a clear surface.  To clarify, we offer 3 inyl label adhesive levels:

  • Low tack:  this gentle sticker adhesive is not super “sticky”. It can be removed relatively easily from most surfaces without leaving a residue.  It is more tacky than a Post-It Note, though, and if you leave it in place for a long time, it becomes more difficult to remove.
  • Permanent:  our standard sticker. You can remove permanent adhesive stickers, but it takes effort.  You may need to heat them up, and a residue may remain.
  • High tack:  super sticky, manufacturers made this vinyl to stick to rough surfaces. In addition, it can withstand quite high and low temperatures.  Laminated, these are as tough as they come.

Next, there is a choice of finish with our standard vinyls.  They come in either high gloss or matte.

2. Stickers and Decals Size

Secondly, you select the sticker size.  We buy vinyl in large rolls, so our cutting machine can output whatever size you need.  Using our vinyl stickers and labels ordering page, you can enter the number and size you want for your custom vinyl stickers.  Here, the maximum size is 24″ x 24″.  Enter any value for your length and width, even fractions.  To clarify, a value of 18.35″ is an acceptable width, 24.01″ is not.  If you want larger vinyl stickers, check out our Giant Stickers.

3. Custom Sticker and Label Shape

Thirdly, you tell us what shape you want. The vinyl sticker printer prints, then cuts. This is called “kiss cutting”. Any shape is possible with a vinyl cutter.  It is simple to round the corners on square labels, if you want.  Similarly, we can create a contour around the artwork so the finished vinyl sticker has the same shape as your image.  In addition, our vinyl cutter  can cut intricate silhouette stickers.  These come with transfer tape to keep all the parts together for installation.  Contact us about custom cut vinyl stickers with transfer tape if this is what you want.

4. Lamination

Fourthly, to protect your artwork, we offer you the choice of matte or gloss lamination.  To laminate, we apply an optically clear gloss or matte vinyl over top of your stickers.  This keeps dirt and chemicals from coming into contact with the inks.  Finally, lamination makes the stickers a bit thicker and stiffer.  It also makes them look awesome.

5. Grouped on Sheets or Individual

Finally, you have three choices for how the vinyl stickers are prepared for you. After printing and cutting, we remove the large sheet of printed and kiss cut stickers from the vinyl sticker printer.  Next, we “weed” the excess material from between the stickers.  Finally, we cut the large sheet of backing paper with the stickers on it into more manageable sizes, according to your request.

  • Grouped on sheets: we trim the larger sheet into manageable pages, with several stickers on each page, depending on the size of each one.  This is the default method and works best for labels.
  • Individual stickers: we trim the larger sheet so that there is only one sticker on its own backing paper.  The backing paper will be square or rectangular.
  • Individual stickers on contoured backing:  the machine kiss cuts the sticker, then makes a deeper cut through the backing paper so the backing paper also has a custom shape.  This may be desirable if you are handing stickers out or selling them.  This is called “die cutting”.
Artwork and Setup

As with our other products, we offer artwork support to help you create your custom decals.  Just send your files or ideas and we will add lines that tell the cutting machine where to cut around your label.  You will get a proof back, if you want one, the same business day.  We understand that most people don’t know how to set up custom vinyl cuts, so it is included in our “just do it” artwork support.

Production Time

We offer rush, or “priority”, printing on custom decals and stickers.  However, it is difficult to predict how much ACTUAL production time your job will take.  For example, custom labels that contain tiny print or a bar code in the artwork take MUCH longer to print than a sticker with larger text or graphics.  Please take this into consideration when ordering, particularly if you are asking for priority service.  One customer asked for her job to be completed the same day, submitting after the 10 am cut off, and sent a print job that required more than 8 hours of machine time!  Good quality custom decals take time.  If you have a hard deadline, please expect to (potentially) sacrifice on print quality as we have to speed up the vinyl printer and cutting machine.

Have fun!

To conclude, custom vinyl stickers are fun.  We make ordering them fun too.  You choose the size, shape, adhesive, finish and get instant pricing.  Easy.

Get print-ready artwork without the headaches

Every print job must start with a useable digital, print ready file.  Here is a list of the most common issues with artwork that is not print-ready:
  • It has no bleed – your background image/colour should extend beyond the size of the finished product by 1/8″ all the way around
  • Document is sized improperly – an 8.5″ x 11″ file cannot be easily used for a half letter or 4″ x 6″ postcard, or for a 12″ x 18″ poster
  • Images used in the artwork are pixelated – all images should be 300 dpi
  • Entire file is low resolution – your file should be saved at 300 dpi.  Many free online programs do not export appropriate resolution.
  • Colours are set to RGB instead of CMYK – in this case, the colours that are printed may not be what you are expecting
  • Contrast between background and fonts is inadequate – dark fonts do not show up against a dark background.  What works on a backlit monitor will not work in print
  • Fonts are too small – it is wise to print a version of your artwork on a home printer to see the actual size of the fonts before ordering.  Again, it may look great on your monitor at 500 times magnification, but not work when printed.
  • Fonts are not embedded or converted to outlines – this can cause fonts to change in the processing of the file, changing your entire layout and design
  • Content has errors
  • Content is too close to the edge of the design – allow a “safe zone” to accommodate small variations in the printing, cutting, and finishing
  • Crop marks are improperly placed – this is the same of not having bleeds
  • You submit multiple files – a double sided flyer file should be in one .pdf file, 2 pages, not 2 files
  • File is in the wrong format – pdf files should be submitted.  While we allow other formats, they have to be converted before they can be processed.   In many cases, that is quite difficult as the file can be changed by the process.  In other cases, the file is not compatible with our software or hardware (for example, none of our printers can print .png files!  They all have to be converted to a printable format first).
  • The artwork is an idea, something you had printed somewhere else, written on a piece of paper, or a bunch of image and text files that need to be assembled – there is lots of work to do to get the file you need.

Experience has taught us that most customers, and sadly, many professional graphic designers, do not understand how to create print ready files. In addition, many of the free products available for you to design for yourself, do not output print ready files.  In some cases, your file can be easily corrected, using the wide variety of (expensive and sometimes difficult to use) software that we keep on hand at the Laser Sharp shop.  If you are stuck, we can help.  Use Service Tiers table to select the support level suitable for your project.

Some Fine Print

  • The prices shown are charge PER PRODUCT ORDER.  In some cases, design elements created for one print job may be used in others; if so, you may be able to select Advanced artwork for the first product and Standard for another if elements created for the Advanced project are reused in the Standard one.
  • The price for the tier includes any or all of the checked elements.  In other words, if you only want to get files prepared to be sent to you in different formats, you need to select the Advanced option.
  • You need to use the the red “upload your print files” button to upload your pictures and support documents.  There is a text box for you to provide details.  The more detail you give, the more likely you are to get a fast turn around on your support.
  • You are responsible for securing the legal rights to use any images, texts, or logos.
  • You are also responsible for planning the marketing strategy and goal behind your artwork.  We provide services to create digital print files, we do not develop your marketing program or create content.
  • The pricing for Advanced has a “+”.  If you expect more of the designer, like for us to find pictures for your project or to write content, you will be asked to pay more.
  • An electronic proof is included with most options.  It is CRUCIAL that you review the proof carefully with the following in mind:
    • Each support tier comes with a limited number of revisions.  Given that, when you receive your proof, take time to consider EVERY change you will want before you ask for revisions.  Any revisions requested over the limit will result in a request for further payment before they are made.
    • The colours you see on your screen and phone will not (necessarily) be an exact match to the final print.  If you are concerned about colour, it is your responsibility to request a printed (hard proof) before approving the job.
    • Any error in the content or colour mismatch is your responsibility once you give the go ahead to print.  If the designer has made an error, he/she may never know (for example, if a price or phone number is incorrect), so it is up to you to catch that before it goes to print.  There is no refund or credit given for reprints – the designer’s mistake is yours now.
    • Production WILL NOT START until your approval is received IN WRITING and in the requested manner and wording.  Don’t phone and tell us to go ahead.  Email and tell us to print the proof version sent to you (by file name) or that proof X is not approved because this specific change needs to be made (please don’t just tell us you don’t like the colour!!).
