Tri-fold or Bi-fold Brochures

Tri-fold brochures are also sometimes called pamphlets or leaflets.  The two folds create six content panels. 

Most often, tri-fold brochures are used to provide information, though in some cases one of the outer panels can be perforated along the crease to create a tear-away form.

Bi-fold Brochures are sometimes referred to as newsletters. A single fold on the page creates 4 total content panels.

Tri-fold Sizes

• Letter – 8.5″ x 11″, folding to 8.5″ x 3.6″
• Tabloid – 11″ x 17″, folding to 11″ x 5.6″
• Banner – 11″ x  25.5″, folding to 11″ x 8.5″

Bi-fold Sizes

• Letter – 8.5″ x 11″, foldiing to 8.5: x 5.5″
• Tabloid – 11″ x 17″, folding to 8.5″ x 11″

Creased Folds

All of our brochures are creased prior to folding.  The crease, or “score”, creates an indentation in the paper along the fold line.  Creasing printed pages prevents the paper from cracking along the fold and results in a professional, clean finish.

Tri-fold brochures can be folded with either a letter fold (also called a roll fold) or a Z-fold, depending on the orientation of the panel artwork.

Full Colour Printing

Brochure pages are printed on both sides in full CMYK colour.  Laser Sharp brochures can also be printed in black and white, if desired.

For the price conscious, the most commonly selected options for tri-fold and bi-fold brochures is 28lb paper in 8.5″ x 11″.

Generally, though, the most popular and commonly used paper is the 100lb gloss.

Both of these papers are thicker than 20lb standard office paper and print on the back side does not show through to the front.

The letter fold is the most common finishing choice.

Bi-fold brochures in half letter size (8.5″ x 5.5″) are commonly printed for funeral and memorial services, though they can serve any purpose.  

The larger bi-fold is often named for its use – either a newsletter or sell sheet.  Tabloid sell sheets are popular among realtors.

Print ready artwork for brochures should be the correct proportion for the size you select and have a 1/8″ bleed around the outside edge of the page. 

All images should be suitable for printing and the file saved at 3o0 dpi.  Please convert fonts to curves/outlines.

PDF files are preferred.

Graphic Support

If you need help to revise or create your brochure:

1. Select the flat rate graphic support option for revision or file creation, as appropriate
2. Upload your files.  These may be logo art, photos, or whatever you want included in your brochure design.  Include a the full text as you want it to appear in the brochure.  Our graphic support does not include creating your marketing content.  Text should be provided in a Word or Notepad text document that is easily copied and pasted into your brochure graphic file.
3. Tell us your preferred fonts and colours
4. If you have an idea of how you want the brochure to look, upload a photo of it.

Our graphic support service includes an electronic proof of your brochure design before printing.  Edits are not unlimited, however, so please finalize your concept and content before submitting your files.

Free or low cost brochure design templates can be found online.  You just edit the text with your own content and save it for printing.
