The front and back of a greeting card are printed on the same side of the paper. We call it the outside. Because it is one print pass, both are in colour or black and white.
The inside message of the card is printed on the other side of the press sheet. Since black print only is cheaper, we offer you the option of black and white on the inside even if you select colour on the outside. It saves you money.
After printing, we routinely crease, or score, each card at the fold. Creasing card stock prevents cracking of the surface when the card is folded, and gives your cards a professional look.
Finished greeting cards are scored, but not folded. This makes it easier for you to write a personal message in each card before folding it at the crease and placing it in the envelope.
Paper options are provided on the drop-down list from thinnest (12 point) to thickest (16 point), The papers are semi-gloss or matte on both sides, except for the 12 point C1S which is semi-gloss coated on the outside and matte on the inside.
14 point matte cardstock and colour print with blank envelopes is a common choice. There is a slight edge in popularity toward the smaller sized cards, but mostly because it is a more common size for invitations and thank you cards.
It is crucial to be aware of how the fold works. A .125″ bleed should be added around at least 3 edges, and back artwork correctly oriented. A picture has been added to the image gallery to help.
If you are uncertain, send the images in separate files and we will help.
Any jpg, png, or tif file in your greeting card artwork should be high resolution (300 dpi) to avoid pixilation. If you are using a photo, please remember that some of the content along the edges will be cut off to accommodate full bleed printing.
It does not cost you any extra to print a logo or to credit the artist or photographer on the back of the card as both the image and the credit can go on the outside of the folded greeting card..
